As a Summer Maintenance Temp, your main duty will be operating heavy equipment to perform required maintenance duties such as; basic snow and ice control and removal. You will also perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance as needed. You will complete highway maintenance duties, which include assisting in installing, repairing, and maintaining highway signs and guardrails. To complete these tasks and others assigned you will operate power tools and other equipment to perform maintenance duties. You will also keep the roadways clear of any hazards; this includes litter, waste, debris, garbage, and carcass. You will complete building and ground maintenance duties, and general routine maintenance of the roadway and radio system equipment. You will also perform minor preventive and repair maintenance on vehicles and equipment. Maintain necessary paperwork, including time records, activity reporting, daily diary, road reports, etc. You will receive training and perform construction project duties under close supervision. An important part of this position and the culture at the NDDOT is to maintain a safe working environment for yourself, your coworkers, and others.

Minimum Qualifications

This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in highway materials testing, geotechnical exploration, field data collection, engineering, and research. Minimum Qualifications

Manage Construction Projects Monitor contractor operations to assure project is built according to the plans and specs. Monitor project paperwork such as labor compliance, environmental commitments, EEO requirements, etc. to assure Contractor compliance. Supervise materials sampling/testing and construction surveying on the project. Review and finalize project payments and paperwork. Communicate effectively with contractors. Make decisions to resolve project issues and keep projects on time and within budget. Negotiate and issue change orders. Prepare Environmental Documents and Design Construction Plans Complete environmental documents for roadway designs. Understand project needs and make decisions about project design details. Prepare plan documents for roadway design projects. Follow Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and NDDOT Design Manual standards. Construction Project Inspection Inspect contract work such as bituminous and concrete paving, earthwork, structures, traffic control and signing. Monitor quantities and make field adjustments. Measure and document contractor pay items. Document construction project work and monitor project schedule. Construction Survey and Materials Testing for Aggregate, Concrete, Soils, and Hot Bituminous Pavement Test materials on construction projects such as concrete, aggregates, soils and hot bituminous pavements. Perform construction survey staking including slope stakes, blue tops, right of way, and earthwork topo. Survey and calculate quantity measurements such as earthwork volumes. Miscellaneous Duties such as Preliminary Surveys, Bridge Deck Evaluations, Attend Training Lead or work on preliminary survey crew. Conduct bridge deck evaluations. Plot results and submit to Bridge Division. Attend training and keep required certifications up to date.

Minimum Qualifications

Transportation Engineer III:Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management.Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.Four years of professional-level engineering work experience with at least two years of highway construction project management.Requires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.Transportation Engineer II:Bachelor's degree in engineering.Bachelor's degree with a major in construction management and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam may substitute for the educational requirement.Two years of highway related work experience.Requires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.Transportation Engineer I:*Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management.Minimum qualifications must be met by June 15, 2024.Requires a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and the required drug test, medical screening, reference check and driving records check.
