In this position, you will serve as a Fertilizer Program Specialist, performing in a regulatory role and enforcing state and federal laws. Most work typically involves working in office with occasional in-state travel.Manage the state fertilizer tonnage program. Review and process submitted annual fertilizer tonnage reports to the Department for accuracy and proper payment of tonnage fees.Prepare written reports of fertilizer facilities for follow up regulatory responses by the Department.Review enforcement cases submitted by fertilizer inspectors for accuracy and prepare enforcement letters.Manage fertilizer sampling database and coordinate sample analysis with state lab.Provide input to develop efficiencies related to the fertilizer inspection and tonnage program.Manage the Risk Management Program for Agriculture Anhydrous Ammonia facilities.Manage anhydrous ammonia inspection program.License anhydrous ammonia facilities.Track compliance metrics to monitor program effectiveness.Accomplish division objectives by supervising staff and monitoring work processes. While this position reports to the Pesticide and Fertilizer Division Director, it will support the Agriculture Commissioner in coordination with the Pesticide and Fertilizer Division. Because much of the work requires an onsite presence, this position is based in Bismarck at our Ag West location.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business administration, agribusiness, natural or biological sciences, or related field; ORBachelor's degree in another field and two years of qualifying inspection experience or administrative experience in an agriculture-related field; ORAssociate's degree in agriculture, natural or biological sciences, or related field and four years of qualifying inspection experience or administrative experience in an agricultural-related field; OR High school diploma (or GED) and six years of qualifying inspection experience or administrative experience in an agricultural-related field.Requires a valid class D driver's license for in-state travel.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

BA degree in Fire Science or a closely related field or A high school diploma or GED and 8 years of professional fire fighting work experience of progressively increasing responsibility, including participation in fire prevention and awareness programs, research and training in fire loss prevention in commercial, government, or private establishments, or involvement in one or more phases of fire investigation, or similar responsibilities which reflect work experience that will have developed knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform duties required for this position. Each year of college level course work leading to a degree in fire science or a closely related field may be substituted year for year of required work experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as described in this job announcement. andValid class D driver's license or the ability to travel from one location to another within the state on your own. Successful completion of the testing and interview process, along with reference checks and standard background and criminal record checks to determine knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform deputy fire marshal tasks. Preference will be given to applicants with work experience in code enforcement, plan review, public education, or fire investigation.
