At the North Dakota Department of Transportation, we owe our success to our people and processes. As a Transportation Engineer III in the Design Division, you will develop environmental and engineering documents, plans, and specifications using engineering analysis to evaluate the required work for construction projects on state and federal highway systems and environmentally clear projects to obtain federal approval. The ideal person for this position will be a problem solver with excellent communication skills and attention to detail with previous experience in maintaining the Computer Aided Drafting and Design Program (CADD). You will also have knowledge of practices, principles, standards, and guidelines as related to engineering processes, preparing engineering reports and plans for roadway construction and providing technical support for consultants. Primary duties associated with this position are as follows: Prepare preliminary engineering studies and environmental documents needed for impact analysis, cost estimating, engineering analysis, and decision making.Develop and maintain expertise in signals, lighting, ITS, and electrical item as well as assist with other areas of the Traffic Safety section.Prepare project plans to communicate engineering analysis to contractors and others involved in building projects.Project Management: Manage multiple projects. Sequence and coordinate activities or tasks to deliver projects on schedule.Provide technical assistance to consultants and designers; serve as contact for information, decisions, and data for projects.

Minimum Qualifications

As our new Transportation Engineer III, you will need a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, electrical engineering, or other applicable engineering degree, four years of professional-level engineering work experience, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, and a class D driver's license for travel to meetings and project locations.Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.

As an Equipment Operator, you will perform highway, roadway, and structure maintenance. This includes operating heavy equipment to perform required maintenance duties like basic snow and ice control/removal. As a Fleet & Equipment Technician III, you will repair vehicles and equipment to keep vehicles and equipment ready for use, you will diagnosis and repair all fleet trucks and DOT equipment. Heavy Equipment, Tractors & Minor Equipment Repair - testing, replacing, or rebuilding as needed; Troubleshoot and repair; cooling, electrical, steering systems, brakes, gear boxes, clutches, hydraulics, transmissions, engine repair gas and diesel, differentials, hydrostatic drive transmission, antilock and air brake trailers, and electronic instrument cluster. Shop Maintenance and Recordkeeping - maintain tools and shop area, fill out time sheets accurately, use Fleet Focus system, check and report accident hazards.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this position as a Fleet and Equipment III, you must have a Class A Driver License, completed a two-year curriculum in automotive or diesel/industrial equipment technology, and 2 years of work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity as those listed in the .Completion of a three-year master technology program and one year of work experience performing duties listed in the can substitute for the 2-year curriculum and 2 years of experience.Work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity to those to be performed on vehicles and equipment like those to be serviced may be substituted for the educational requirement of the basis of one year of work experience for one year of education. Successful applicant must provide required tools on the date of hire. List of required tools is available from any district office.As determined by the district engineer or division director, employees will at times be required to report to work within 30 minutes in situations involving emergency, storm, or public safety concerns.
